Wouldn't it be amazing if we human beings have the ability to see the full electromagnetic spectrum of light in our natural world? Because our brain perceives color through the cone cells in our eyes, generally corresponding to red, green and blue light, this seems so limiting to our vision. A mixture of red and green light is different from pure yellow light, yet our eyes perceive them as the same.
Could we imagine colors outside of our visibility range? If we could, I think I would be even more mesmerized than I already am. So why don’t we stop more often to take in and admire the beautiful palette of colors already around us? Why do we walk around without truly seeing?
I’m so grateful for colored pencils because I can blend and mix the hues any which way. There are no rules. I think it’s the closest I can get to come up with seeing a wider range and vibrancy of the spectrum of colors without the wavelength limitations. Even then, I’m certain I won’t come close to the colors that actually exist.
Colors play a role in how we feel and act. I have always been partial to the color blue, specifically a light, powdery blue. It makes me calm and happy. If the world consisted of powder blue colored human beings, I wonder if we’d all be more grateful and content. Or maybe if we were all completely color blind, maybe we’d all be kind toward one another and live in harmony.
